Moooi have set up shop next door to Tom Dixon at Portobello Dock, opening a grand 250 m² showroom on the ground floor of the Grade II listed White Building. The space provides a fantastic setting for a complete display of the Moooi range including bold contemporary designs by Front, Ron Gilad, Studio Job and Maarten Baas.

The launch of the London showroom follows recent openings of dedicated spaces in Antwerp and Milan. Moooi hope that by setting up shop next to Tom Dixon there will be enough interest at Portobello Dock to entice people away from fashionable east London, and Marcel Wanders has certainly chosen a suitable space to display their exuberant collection.

Tom Dixon shop

Tom Dixon set up his London headquarters at Portobello Dock last year but at this year’s London Design Festival the new shopping space has launched as a retail outlet for Dixon’s own products as well as a carefully curated selection of work from international concession brands including Brompton bicycles, Piet Hein Eek, Phaidon and Simon Hasan.

During LDF Simon Hasan will be working on site creating a range of vases using his unusual technique of boiling and sculpting raw leather. The finished pieces are then sold from a customised vending machine in the shop.

With two well established design brands now residing at this modern, attractive location there are certainly more than enough reasons to pay Portobello Dock a visit. Perhaps west is becoming the new east?
